The Story Behind Real Human Hair Wigs

The hair used in human hair wigs comes from various sources, with China being the largest exporter and importer. Other countries like Brazil, the Philippines, and Malaysia also contribute to the supply. Different types of human hair, such as Virgin Hair and Remy Hair, offer varying qualities and textures, with each type originating from different regions.

Different hair types originate from different places, altering the texture, thickness, bounce, shine, and strength. For example, Brazilian hair is known for its volume and thickness, ideal for African American women’s wigs, while Indian hair is light and bouncy, suitable for various wig styles.

Where Does the Hair Come From for Hair Extensions?

Human hair used for extensions originates from diverse sources, ensuring a wide range of options for consumers.

Here are some common avenues through which hair for extensions is obtained:

  1. Hair Donations: A significant portion of human hair for extensions comes from generous individuals who donate their locks to charitable organizations or hair banks. These organizations collect, sort, and process the donated hair to create high-quality extensions. Hair donations are a compassionate way for people to contribute to a good cause while providing raw material for extensions.
  2. Hair Trade: Another source of human hair for extensions is the global hair trade, where individuals sell their hair for profit. This trade network spans various countries, including India, China, Brazil, and more. Hair sourced through the hair trade undergoes thorough processing to ensure its quality and suitability for use in extensions.
  3. Salon Waste: Hair salons play a role in the supply chain of human hair extensions by collecting and selling hair clippings. These clippings, gathered during routine haircuts, are often of high quality and can be repurposed for extensions. Salon waste hair is a sustainable and cost-effective source of human hair for extensions, contributing to the recycling and reuse of natural resources.

By sourcing human hair from multiple channels, the hair extension industry ensures a steady supply of high-quality hair to meet the diverse needs and preferences of consumers worldwide. Whether it’s through donations, the hair trade, or salon waste, each source contributes to the availability of beautiful and versatile hair extensions for styling and self-expression.

Processing the Hair

Once the hair is collected, it undergoes a rigorous sorting and processing process. The hair is carefully inspected to remove any damaged or low-quality strands. It is then washed, sanitized, and sorted according to length, texture, and color.

1. Initial Sorting and Inspection:

Skilled professionals carefully examine each strand, ensuring that only the highest quality hair is selected for further processing. Damaged or low-quality strands are removed during this initial sorting stage.

2. Washing and Sanitizing:

The selected hair undergoes a thorough washing and sanitizing process to remove impurities and ensure cleanliness. Specialized shampoos and conditioners are used to cleanse the hair gently, leaving it soft, smooth, and free from any residue.

3. Sorting by Length, Texture, and Color:

After cleaning, the hair is sorted according to various criteria, including length, texture, and color. This meticulous sorting process ensures uniformity and consistency in the final product, allowing for a natural and seamless blend.

4. Optional Treatments:

Depending on the desired final look, the processed hair may undergo additional treatments. These treatments could include color processing to achieve specific shades or textures, as well as treatments to enhance shine, volume, or manageability.

Where Do Extensions Come From?

Hair extensions can come from a variety of sources, including:

1. Virgin Hair: Virgin hair extensions are made from hair that has never been chemically processed or treated. This hair is prized for its natural look and high quality.

2. Remy Hair: Remy hair extensions are made from hair that has been carefully collected and sorted to ensure that all the cuticles are aligned in the same direction. This helps prevent tangling and ensures a smooth, natural appearance.

3. Synthetic Hair: In addition to human hair, extensions can also be made from synthetic fibers. Synthetic hair extensions are typically more affordable than human hair extensions, but they may not look or feel as natural.

Ensuring the Legitimacy of Your Human Hair Wig Purchase

  1. Research the Seller: Look into the seller before buying. Choose well-known stores or brands with good reviews.
  2. Check for Certifications: Legit human hair wigs usually come with certificates showing they’re real. Look for these labels when you buy.
  3. Feel the Hair: Real human hair feels soft and smooth. Run your fingers through the hair to check its texture.
  4. Look at the Hair Quality: Good human hair wigs have strands that look healthy and shiny. Avoid wigs with dull or thin-looking hair.
  5. Consider the Price: Human hair wigs cost more than synthetic ones. Be careful of very cheap prices, as they might not be real human hair.
  6. Ask Questions: Don’t be afraid to ask the seller about the wig’s origin and quality. A good seller will be happy to help.
  7. Request a Sample: If you can, ask for a small piece of the hair to check its quality before buying.
  8. Check the Return Policy: Make sure you can return the wig if you’re not happy with it. Look for sellers with good return policies.

By following these steps, you can make sure you’re buying a real human hair wig that’s worth your money and fits your needs perfectly.

Different Types of Wig Construction

Understanding the different types of wig construction methods can help you make an informed decision when purchasing a human hair wig. Some common construction methods include hand-tied, machine-made, and lace-front wigs.

Different Types of Wig Construction

1. Hand-Tied Wigs:

These wigs are meticulously crafted by hand, with each hair strand individually knotted onto the wig cap. Hand-tied wigs offer the most natural look and movement, as the hair appears to grow directly from the scalp. They are also lightweight and comfortable to wear, making them ideal for daily use.

2. Machine-Made Wigs:

Machine-made wigs are mass-produced using sewing machines to attach the hair to the wig cap. While they are more affordable than hand-tied wigs, they may lack the natural appearance and versatility of hand-tied options. However, machine-made wigs are still a great choice for those on a budget or looking for a quick and convenient option.

3. Lace-Front Wigs:

Lace-front wigs feature a sheer lace panel along the front hairline, which creates a natural-looking hairline and allows for easy styling. The rest of the wig cap may be constructed using hand-tied or machine-made methods. Lace-front wigs are popular for their versatility and ability to be styled off the face.

Constructing the Wig Base

Once the hair has been processed, it is ready to be assembled into a wig. The wig base, also known as the cap, is constructed using various materials such as lace, mesh, or silicone. These materials provide a comfortable and breathable foundation for the wig, allowing for natural movement and ventilation.

Ventilating the Hair:

The next step in the process is ventilating the hair into the wig base. This is typically done by hand using a specialized tool called a ventilating needle. Each strand of hair is carefully knotted into the wig base, one at a time, to create a natural-looking hairline and part.

Styling and Finishing Touches:

Once the hair has been ventilated into the wig base, the final styling touches are applied. This may include cutting and shaping the hair to achieve the desired length and style, as well as adding color or highlights if desired. The wig is then styled and finished using heat styling tools and products to create the perfect look.

Human Hair Wigs ‚Äď The Finished Product

After undergoing a meticulous creation process, human hair wigs emerge as stunning, natural-looking masterpieces. From preparing the hair strands to crafting the wig pattern, laying foundations, knotting the hair, and styling the final product, each step contributes to the creation of a high-quality human hair wig.

Conclusion

Crafting human hair wigs is a labor of love, requiring a delicate balance of artistry and precision at every turn. From the careful selection of premium hair strands to the intricate construction of the wig base, each step is executed with unwavering dedication and attention to detail. Whether you wear a wig to make a fashion statement, address hair loss concerns, or simply express your personal style, understanding the craftsmanship behind its creation adds a layer of appreciation and significance to the experience.

Moreover, human hair wigs serve as powerful symbols of confidence and self-expression. They offer a blank canvas for exploring new hairstyles, conquering hair-related challenges, and celebrating individuality.

Whether you’re donning a wig for a special occasion or incorporating it into your everyday look, the effort and care poured into its making shine through, making it a true reflection of your unique beauty and spirit. So, the next time you slip on a human hair wig, take a moment to honor the craftsmanship and creativity that brought it to life, and embrace the confidence and empowerment it brings to your life.
